Scott and Mark Hoying’s daughter is already a recording artist, and she didn’t even have to wait a full day to make her debut.
Birdie James Hoying, the baby daughter of the Pentatonix founding member and his husband, makes her official recording debut on Little Birdie’s Big Symphony, a 10-track children’s album from the couple set to release on Aug. 20. The album was created around the Hoyings’ early days as parents, with Birdie’s first sounds becoming part of the record in a rather fitting way. Charmingly, the audio was captured on an iPhone on the day she was born.
That recording appears at the end of the album’s opening track “Welcome Home,” before being woven into “Hello, My Baby Birdie!” The latter officially lists Birdie as a featured artist.
Little Birdie’s Big Symphony is Scott and Mark’s second children’s album, arriving after their 2025 release of M.Y. F.A.M.I.L.Y. Instead of simply creating another collection of kids’ songs, the couple used the new addition to their family as inspiration for a project that connects their own musical histories with the people who have become part of their lives.
Among those guests are artists who have personal significance to the Hoyings. Trout Fishing in America, the children’s music duo Scott discovered when he was 6, are featured on “The Flamingo Song.” Their music left such an impact on Scott as a child that he told his father he wanted to become a touring musician, making his eventual collaboration with the duo decades later a sentimental full-circle moment.
Christina Perri also appears on the album, joining the couple for “Landslide,” which holds another special place in the Hoying family: It was the first song Scott sang to Birdie. Perri also officiated and performed at Scott and Mark’s wedding, making the track all the more special. Kina Grannis, a longtime friend of the pair, contributed vocals to “Lullaby (Close Your Eyes),” originally written by Trout Fishing in America.
Some of the album’s most personal moments come from the Hoyings themselves. “Dad 2 U” started out as Scott trying to write Birdie a letter, but realized that the letter could just be a song. On “Pretty Little Baby,” Scott leans into the a cappella style fans will recognize from his work with Pentatonix, while Mark sings a verse in Tagalog to celebrate his and Birdie’s Filipino heritage.
Scott produced Little Birdie’s Big Symphony, with orchestration and additional production from Emmy-winning composer and orchestrator Dave Pierce and Grammy-nominated composer and orchestrator A.J. Sealy.
