Dave Bautista is in talks to play Kratos in the live-action God Of War series after the original actor Ryan Hurst dropped out.

Last month, it was reported that Kratos’ actor Hurst would have to quit the God Of War series after suffering an on-set injury that would delay filming by several months. It was said that four episodes had been filmed at the time of the incident and will now need to be reshot.

Last night (August 3) Deadline reported that Guardians Of The Galaxy actor Dave Bautista is currently in talks to step into the role. Production is due to restart in October.

When the God Of War series was first announced back in 2022, Bautista was one of the actors rumoured to be involved, However Christopher Judge, the actor behind Kratos in the God Of War reboot and its 2022 sequel, wasn’t impressed by the news. “…And it’s been said I can’t read a room,” he wrote on X. “Don’t get me wrong, I think Dave Bautista is great, but…”

Dave Bautista has never acknowledged the rumours but in the 2022 Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special, Bautista’s Drax The Destroyer is mistaken for Kratos.

The cast for the live-action God Of War also includes Callum Vinson as Atreus, Severance star Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as God Of Thunder Thor, Teresa Palmer as Thor’s wife Sif, Max Parker in the role of Heimdall and Mandy Patinkin as Odin. Ed Skrein, meanwhile, will play main antagonist Baldur.

The show will take influence from the two most recent games (2018’s God Of War and Ragnarok). “Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human,” reads an official synopsis.

It’s also been reported that the role of Atreus will be recast for season two of God Of War, which has already been greenlit at Amazon.

In other news, Tom Holland has admitted that he still hasn’t watched HBO’s The Last Of Us because he loves the game series too much.
