We now have the venues and full timeline for the 79th annual WGA Awards next year.
The Writers Guild of America said last month that its dual 2027 ceremonies would be held February 13, and Tuesday morning came word that they will be held at the Edison Ballroom in New York City and the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. The nominations will be revealed on Friday, January 8. See the full voting timeline and submission deadlines below.
The 2027 WGA Awards should be a return to normalcy after a decidedly unusual awards year for the guild. Its annual West Coast ceremony was canceled a week before its planned March 8 show amid a strike by unionized staffers against WGA West‘s management. That came ahead of the full union’s contract talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers that resulted in a new four-year deal that was struck in early April and ratified three weeks later.

The WGA gave its top film prizes to 2026 awards juggernauts One Battle After Another and The Sinners, while The Pitt went 3-for-3 in its TV categories.
Fast-forward to this summer, and the Writers Guild is part of the pushback against the planned $110 billion merger of Paramount Skydance and Warners Bros Discovery. The WGA East and West filed a joint lawsuit last month seeking to quash the deal on antitrust grounds. Hoping to align the timing of its case with that of a dozen state attorneys general, the guild filed a motion seeking a preliminary injunction to halt the deal, at least temporarily.
