World of Warcraft is about to resurrect and remix its most beloved expansion: Wrath of the Lich King.

As announced today at Blizzcon during the World of Warcraft: What’s Next panel, Wrath of the Lich King will be the latest expansion to get World of Warcraft‘s remix treatment, previously given to Mists of Pandaria and Legion.

WoW remixes are limited-time, in-game events where players are able to make a character at level 1 and play through the expansion in question rapidly growing to max level and getting powerful, often fun and silly, sometimes a little game-breaking abilities along the way. Completing things in a remix earns currency that can then be spent to gain unique rewards such as cosmetics, mounts, and pets in regular World of Warcraft, and at the end, characters are transferable into the normal game. And Blizzard runs through the various major patches and events that occurred in each expansion on a sped-up schedule, so players participating can see and reexperience everything in a condensed period of time.

Both of WoW’s remixes so far have been a popular way to play the game during what’s normally a lull between two major retail expansions, and this one looks to be no different. Leading up to Blizzcon, there was some concern within the community that the next remix event would be one of the lesser-liked expansions, such as Shadowlands or Warlords of Draenor. Wrath of the Lich King, however, is probably Blizzard’s best-known and most beloved expansion. It’s also an excellent warm-up act for the next new expansion, The Last Titan, which takes place in a revamped version of Lich King’s setting of Northrend.

We don’t have any specific details as to what we’re in for in Wrath remix, but we know we’ll see its chilly winds just in time for the hot summer of 2027.
