The Odyssey has inspired a huge number of people to revisit 2018’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, says a new report.
Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek classic hit cinemas last month and quickly became the biggest live-action film of the year so far. The Odyssey has caused a spike in people wanting to learn Greek and, according to a new report, has inspired a number of gamers to revisit 2018’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
According to Alinea Analytics, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey saw a 90 per cent increase in players across Steam, PlayStation and Xbox following the release of The Odyssey. Daily active users increased from 122,000 on the film’s opening day (July 17) to 233,000 on July 27 (via GamesIndustry.biz).

“Software sales moved modestly at around 400,000 copies year-to-date, but the real here is pure player engagement,” said Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliot. “The film didn’t make millions buy an eight-year-old game, but it got a massive cohort playing it again. That data gives Ubisoft great ammunition for an eventual Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Resynced.”
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is set during the war between the soldiers of Athens and the Spartans, with players taking control of mercenary Kassandra who is trying to reunite her family and eliminate the secretive Cult Of Kosmos. “In this action-adventure game, set sail for Ancient Greece to alter its fate. Fight in visceral battles on land and sea, shape your destiny from outcast to legend, and uncover secrets of your past,” reads the official description.
Earlier this year, Assassin’s Creed developers released a remake of the 2013’s Black Flag with more reportedly in the works.
In other news, a classic Metallica song will feature on the soundtrack for Gears Of War: E-Day alongside a range of themed weapon skins.
