The iPhone 17 Pro will be the MVP of Friday Night Baseball

As the MLB season is draws to a close, so does Apple’s season of Friday Night Baseball. And to mark the final games of the year, Apple will be showcasing the tremendous videographic abilities of the iPhone 17 Pro.

Apple and Major League Baseball have announced that parts of Friday’s broadcast of the game between the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park in Boston will be filmed on an iPhone 17 Pro and broadcast live.

In addition to the usual camera rigs, there will be four iPhone 17 Pros set up around Fenway Park, including inside the Green Monster in left field. Additionally, some iPhones will be inside the Red Sox’s dugout, and another will be traveling around the stadium to capture the atmosphere inside the park. MLB says the iPhones will be “used to capture ballpark moments throughout the night, including batting practice, player intros, dugout shots, the fan atmosphere and live gameplay between Boston and Detroit.”

During the September 14 matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, Apple tested the iPhone 17 Pro by capturing footage of Clayton Kershaw and Shohei Ohtani but didn’t air the footage live.

Tonight’s matchup has enormous implications for both teams. The Boston Red Sox are on the verge of a playoff berth, needing just one win to secure a slot, while the Detroit Tigers are clinging to the American League Central Division lead after a historic September collapse that wiped out a 9.5-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10pm ET. You can watch the game in the Apple TV app on supported devices.
