U.S. playwright-writer-director and performer Sophie Fleur de Bruijn, whose original romantic comedy spec script “The One Month Mark” recently sold to Apple, with Jennifer Lawrence attached, has signed for representation with CAA.
De Bruijn has been making a splash in Hollywood with her spec scripts and directed the social horror-comedy “Polycule,” written by Cal Bolster and Amita Rao, in 2024. As a comedian she trained and performed at Chicago’s iO and The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and is a graduate of the Second City Conservatory.
“One Month Mark” revolves around a woman who has never made it past a month in a relationship, and a man who has never gone longer than a month without one. It reportedly sparked a bidding war earlier this summer and was snapped up by Chernin Entertainment, which is producing for Apple. In addition to starring in the upcoming film, Lawrence and her producing partner Justine Ciarrocchi are also on board as producers.
“One Month Mark” marks Bruijn’s second collaboration with Apple following “Early Action,” her first feature spec script for which Apple Original Films scored the rights last year. That film, which is about two parents on a misguided mission to get their son into his dream college, is currently in development with Kevin Walsh and The Walsh Company set to produce under their first-look deal with Apple.
Bruijn’s original play “One Dick For Life,” which she describes as a horror comedy about a bachelorette trip gone wrong, was a Goodman New Stages semifinalist, a Geffen Writers Room semifinalist, and a Weissberger Award nominee.
