Some guys have all the luck, even if sometimes it’s bad.
Rod Stewart‘s reps said Tuesday that the singer has canceled his One Last Time farewell tour concerts for the next four weeks to recover from a recent “routine coronary stent procedure.” No firm dates were given, but he was booked to play U.S. shows through September 5, including Tuesday night in Cleveland, before heading to Mexico for three more.
Among the shows affected by his hiatus are a half-dozen in his Las Vegas residency at the The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The news comes Stewart had called off a planned Sunday concert in Cincinnati at the last minute. That cancellation was attributed to “an unforeseen but minor medical procedure that required prompt attention.”
“I’m already feeling better and very much on the mend,” the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer said in a statement. “I want to thank the doctors, nurses and everyone who has taken such wonderful care of me. I’m deeply disappointed to miss these shows and sorry to let my fans down, but I look forward to getting back on stage and having a good time with you all again soon.”
The 81-year-old rock legend already had canceled or postponed a number of tour dates this year. In June, he nearly fainted and needed oxygen midset before finishing a show in suburban Salt Lake City mostly while seated. That came less than two weeks after Stewart played the Hollywood Bowl for a 14th time, in what he called “my last time here.”
Stewart had been singing with The Faces for several years before launching a wildly successful solo career in the early 1970s. He’s had 16 Top 10 hits in the U.S., hitting No. 1 with “Maggie May,” “Tonight’s the Night” and the disco nugget “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” He also topped the Billboard Hot 100 with “All for Love” alongside Bryan Adams and Sting and has had four No. 1 albums.
The London native has had ever greater success in the UK, where he has racked up five No. 1 singles among 25 Top 10s and 11 chart-topping albums.
