The app indicates live results from the Bundesliga to Formula 1 and dispenses with advertisements. Unlike many other commercial sports apps, Apple Sports deliberately focuses on the essentials. So users should not expect a functional sports app. Apple has focused on quick availability of the information (basically primarily results and intermediate stands) and simple operation.

With Apple Sports, fans can follow their favorite teams and leagues. Events and encounters according to leagues are grouped on the homepage. The app relies on these personalizable views, in which the leagues and teams selected by the user are in the foreground. Games and upcoming encounters are shown on an overview page, and details such as team statistics or lineups can be called up.
The app supports live activities, which shows current scores directly on the iPhone lock screen or the Apple Watch. Functional scope also contains widgets that can be used not only on the iPhone, but also on the iPad or Mac.
