Amber Technology has announced the launch of two Philips gaming projectors in the Australian and New Zealand markets: the GamePix 900 and the GamePix 800 Smart.

The newly released GamePix 900 and GamePix 800 Smart projectors are intended to cater to the requirements of both dedicated gamers and those seeking big-screen entertainment options. Both projectors combine high refresh rates, low input lag, and large projected images with features aimed at facilitating a multi-purpose entertainment environment.

GamePix 900: 4K and esports performance

The GamePix 900 projector is designed to deliver 4K resolution at a refresh rate of 60 Hz. It also supports full HD gaming at 240 Hz or 120 Hz, offering gamers three different presets: Action Gaming for optimising dark scenes in competitive titles, Adventure Gaming for enhancing contrast and HDR in story-driven games, and Sports Gaming for vibrant colours in racing and sports genres.

With a weight of 2kg, the GamePix 900 provides portability while including a built-in speaker for standalone operation. The projector uses Texas Instruments DLP technology with a 0.47-inch DMD chip and an advanced LED light source, which is rated for up to 30,000 hours of use. This design seeks to minimise maintenance needs, using a long-life LED rather than a conventional lamp. The projector outputs 1000 ANSI lumens of brightness, supporting daylight use, and claims a colour space coverage of 95 per cent of Rec. 709. The device utilises HDMI 2.0 ports to ensure compatibility with modern gaming consoles and graphics cards, supporting full 4K resolution at 60 Hz.

A key performance feature is its 6 millisecond input lag when used in 240 Hz mode, aiming to provide near-instantaneous response for competitive gaming. Support for the HDR10 standard is present, and the projector offers an image size up to 120 inches diagonal.

GamePix 800 Smart: Brightness and streaming

The GamePix 800 Smart model is targeting users who require both a gaming-focused projector and a device suitable for use in well-lit rooms. The projector achieves 2500 ANSI lumens brightness through its LED light source, which is also rated for 30,000 hours of operation. The GamePix 800 Smart delivers full HD resolution with a refresh rate up to 120 Hz, supported by an input lag of 8 ms at 120 Hz. Coverage of 98 per cent of the Rec.709 colour space supports accurate colour reproduction across a screen size range from 70 to 150 inches.

The device incorporates an integrated Google TV dongle, providing access to a variety of streaming services, applications, and live content through a singular interface. It weighs 2.7 kg, which facilitates ease of movement between different usage locations, such as personal gaming set-ups or shared environments including local area network events. The unit has dual HDMI ports for connecting multiple devices and a five-watt built-in speaker.

Philips comments on the new products

“The GamePix series marks an exciting new chapter for Philips as we expand into a product family designed to unite two worlds,” said Serge Kossi, VP Global Sales at Philips Projection. “It’s the frontier where passionate gamers and movie lovers meet, delivering the speed, responsiveness, and immersion gamers demand, along with the rich visuals and cinematic quality that film fans crave. With GamePix, we’re offering one all-in-one solution for everyone who wants to play more, watch more, and live their entertainment to the fullest.”

The GamePix 900 and GamePix 800 Smart join the Philips range following the company’s expansion into gaming-focused projectors, aiming to set a new standard for projector brightness and integrated smart features according to the company.

    Availability and pricing

The recommended retail prices for the products in Australia are set at AUD $2,299 for the GamePix 900 and AUD $2,799 for the GamePix 800 Smart. Both models are available for purchase through consumer electronics retailers including JB HiFi, EB Games, and other selected specialist outlets in Australia. The distribution includes both the Australian and New Zealand markets.
