Late last night, Sony showed off a brand-new extended trailer for S-Game’s Phantom Blade Zero, alongside the announcement of a dedicated State of Play showcase for the upcoming game slated for August 17. However, Sony also revealed that pre-orders for the game have gone live on both the PlayStation Store and the Steam storefront…and the lack of physical purchase options for Phantom Blade Zero already has fans concerned.
The pre-order reveal for Phantom Blade Zero was announced via a post on the PlayStation Blog on August 1. Following the link will, naturally, take you to the PlayStation Store, where you can purchase a digital copy of the game.
Now, the omission of an option to buy a physical version of Phantom Blade Zero on the PlayStation Store isn’t exactly news since, regardless of the game being console-exclusive to PS5 for 12 months, it’s still being published by S-Game.
No signs of a physical disc release for Phantom Blade Zero so far.
It is a self published game by S-GAME so maybe they haven’t found a partner to do the physical version and it could come later or they are not doing one at all.

You can only purchase first-party, Sony-published physical games through the PlayStation website—that’s nothing new. However, if you were to compare the PlayStation Blog post about this game to the one about something like Silent Hill 2, which was also exclusive to PlayStation 5 for its first 12 months of release, you’ll notice that the latter specifically makes mention of a physical release of the game…whereas Phantom Blade Zero’s PlayStation Blog post does not.
Likewise, as spotted by Genki in a post on X, the extended reveal trailer for Phantom Blade Zero on the official PlayStation YouTube account has swapped out the disc-drive version of the standard PS5 with the Digital version of the console. As far as I’m aware, that’s the first time Sony has displayed this specific model in the stinger of one of its promo trailers.
This, paired with the fact that S-Game has yet to announce any sort of physical edition of the game, has fans over on the r/PhantomBladeZero subreddit worried that the game may be purely digital—at least, on PlayStation 5. There is always the hope that, if the game’s potential digital-only release has anything to do with Sony’s disc-less future, the Xbox Series version of Phantom Blade Zero might get a disc release.
Kotaku has reached out to S-Game for comment and to inquire if there are plans to release Phantom Blade Zero on disc, but did not receive a reply before publication.
