Perez Hilton will “require surgery” after livestreaming footage of himself self-harming, his family have said.
The celebrity blogger was hospitalised earlier this week after appearing to harm himself in a video livestreamed online.
The Miami-Dade sheriff’s office attended his home on Tuesday (August 4) after they received reports of a man “livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media.”
Now, Hilton’s family have released a statement updating fans on his health. “Perez’s condition remains serious but stable,” they wrote yesterday (August 8) on Hilton’s website.
“He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days. His treatment and recovery will be a long process. We are grateful that Perez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday.”
The statement also asked that the “media or the public” stop waiting outside of Hilton’s home and attempting to photograph his children, pointing out that Hilton has maintained a “no kids policy” on his website for over a decade – meaning he does not publish photos of children unless they are attending a public event.
“There is absolutely no reason for members of the media or the public to remain outside the family’s home,” the statement continued. “We again respectfully ask members of the media to leave the home and surrounding area, stop following family members, and cease photographing Perez’s children. We also ask photo agencies not to purchase, publish, or distribute any photographs of the children that may have been taken.”
Following the initial incident, Hilton’s managers Dante Rusciolelli and Rebekah Kochan said: “We are aware of the concerning content circulating online involving our client, Perez Hilton. At this time, we have not been able to make direct contact with him, despite our ongoing efforts to reach him.
“Our primary concern is Perez’s health and well being, as well as the well being of his family. Until we have confirmed information, we will not speculate or comment further. We appreciate everyone’s concern and ask that his privacy be respected during this time.”
Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr, rose to fame in the mid-2000s with his biting self-titled celebrity gossip blog. He has since moved into reality television and podcasting.
