OnePlus is officially saying goodbye to Europe with immediate effect. They also no longer want to serve the US market. After the “exit” had already become apparent in the last few weeks and months, it has now been confirmed by OnePlus.

    ‘Operational adjustment’ from ‘strategic considerations’

It had been foreseeable since January that this would happen at some point. Today, OnePlus has started to inform on its website for Europe and Germany that it is completely ceasing the brand’s activities in this country. “Strategic considerations” are cited as the reason for this, but these are not elaborated further. Like OnePlus in one Notice on his website explains that an “operational adjustment” is now taking place, as part of which the introduction of new products in Europe and North America is being ended. Anyone who currently owns a OnePlus product will continue to receive software updates, security updates and the legally required support services within the scope of the guarantee and warranty, they further assure.

Devices that are still supported will be switched to ColorOS

Devices like the OnePlus 15 or OnePlus 15R, which are currently officially receiving operating system upgrades, will also be updated to new Android versions as soon as they are officially made available. After the official release of ColorOS 17, it will also be made available for compatible or supported OnePlus devices.

It is noteworthy that OnePlus no longer talks about its in-house OxygenOS, but apparently wants to bring Oppo’s ColorOS to the devices. However, this is unlikely to change much for users, because apart from the name and some design details, the two operating systems are practically identical. According to the list of frequently asked questions on the OnePlus website for Germany, they also want to offer users the option to “roll back” to OxygenOS if they are not satisfied with ColorOS. However, you will probably have to make do with Android version 16, which will no longer be current in the future. The company has not yet listed which OnePlus devices should be converted to the Oppo operating system.

According to previous reports, OnePlus’ parent company, Chinese smartphone giant Oppo, wants to further advance its activities in Europe with its own brand. Most recently, after the end of the sales ban imposed by Nokia in Germany, more Oppo smartphones and other products began to be made available in this country. OnePlus also launched the OnePlus One in Europe in 2013 and 2014 and offered excellently equipped smartphones at comparatively affordable prices for several years. In the meantime, the company that once started with a novel concept has increasingly transformed into a simple subsidiary brand of Oppo that could hardly offer any unique selling points.
