Mary Egida Rivera, actress who portrayed Ned’s Lola on Spider-Man: No Way Home, has died. She was 82.

Rivera, who played the grandmother of Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) in the 2021 film, died after suffering a stroke.

According to an obituary online, Rivera “passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, in Honolulu.”

TMZ reported news of Rivera’s death on Monday, August 3, with the family telling the outlet the actress was placed on life support after suffering a stroke. The doctors did not have a positive prognosis for Rivera if she ever returned from the coma, and with that information, “the family made the difficult decision to remove her from life support.”

Rivera’s obituary notes that “she was very proud” after she was cast in Spider-Man: No Way Home as the Filipino grandmother. She shared a scene with Batalon, Zendaya, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield.

The family told TMZ that she “lived a good life” and it was her family who encouraged her to audition for the role in the Sony Pictures film where she was able to speak in Tagalog.

In Rivera’s memorable scene, Batalon and Zendaya open a portal hoping to get to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, but instead uncover a multiverse of Peters. Garfield first appears in the scene with Zendaya’s MJ asking him to prove he’s Spider-Man, to which he crawls on the ceiling. Ned’s Lola then asks Garfield’s Peter to remove a cobweb from the ceiling, to which he obliges.

Rivera is survived by her husband, Alejandro Rivera; children, Carmela Jones (Jay), Paul Rivera (Leilani), Edwin Rivera, Angela Kelly (Jaime); 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
