Nintendo Of America has used Pokémon Pokopia to tease a potential Pokémon Gold & Silver revival.
Taking to social media over the weekend, the official Nintendo Of America X account shared a screenshot of Pokémon Pokopia that recreated one of the earliest scenes from Pokémon Gold & Silver, where your rival is spotted scoping out Professor Elm’s lab before stealing a starter Pokémon for themselves. “Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver, the other is gold” they captioned the image.

A majority of the replies are from fans convinced that Nintendo is teasing a re-release of the 2000 GameBoy games or the 2010 HeartGold & SoulSilver remasters. “The fact that you would even do this when you know how much your fans want a Gold & Silver remake is diabolical,” wrote one fan. “Nahhh you can’t tease this unless you’re giving us these games,” said another.
It’s not an outlandish theory either. In February, Nintendo brought FireRed & LeafGreen to the Nintendo Switch 2 as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations for the beloved franchise. In the first six weeks, more than 4million people downloaded the 2004 Game Boy Advance titles.
Earlier this month, a leaker claimed Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire would be released for the Switch 2 this September or October. Shortly afterwards, Nintendo announced that FireRed & LeafGreen would become compatible with their cross-game trading system Pokémon Home in October.
It comes after fans discovered a number of subtle changes made to FireRed & LeafGreen. An updated censor will stop you from using NSFW language when naming Pokémon and event tickets have been added to the post-game, meaning fans can now catch legendary creatures Ho-Oh and Lugia. Looking at the game’s source code, dataminer Meatball_132 also discovered that FireRed & LeafGreen will “recognise” Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. Those games were originally released in 2003 and as it stands, it’s impossible to complete the National Dex in FireRed & LeafGreen without them.
In other news, Epic Games has announced it is stopping active development on its live-service fighting game 2XKO due to low player numbers.
