Nikki From Obsession Coming to Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights

Watch your back; Inde Navarrette’s iconic Obsession character, Nikki Freeman, will be wandering around Universal Studios theme parks for Halloween Horror Nights.

Halloween Horror Nights creative director and executive producer, John Murdy, announced the news at Midsummer Scream, a Halloween and horror convention that draws tens of thousands of attendees each year.

As shown in a TikTok filmed by a fan, Murdy said that Nikki’s inclusion in Universal Studios’ spooky seasonal event happened extremely “late” in their planning process. And while he couldn’t reveal all the details about Obsession’s involvement in the experience, he shed a little light on what fans can expect when they finally enter the parks this fall.

“Nikki is out there somewhere,” he said. “You need to get into a Where’s Waldo-type mentality. She might be looking for her next obsession, and I’ll leave it at that.”

This has led fans to believe that Nikki could be wandering around the park at random in a sort of game, challenging visitors to find her and share their photos online.

Nothing else has been announced just yet, but the news has put social media in a frenzy, leaving fans equal parts excited and worried about the safety of the actress, given the character’s obsessive behavior in the film.

“I’m a little scared that people who misunderstand the film will be very weird to her,” one user wrote on X.

“Whoever plays this character, please protect her from people who think they are NOT playing a character,” another urged.

“I don’t know about this one. There’s going to be enough guys that’ll be TOO into it,” another fan said.

Still others found Nikki’s inclusion in Halloween Horror Nights to be at odds with the movie’s overall message, with one saying, “So they just completely missed the point of the movie, huh?”

    Warning: Obsession spoilers ahead!

In Obsession, Nikki’s body gets overtaken with a sinister entity after her friend, Baron, uses a ‘One Wish Willow’ to turn his one-sided crush on her into a reciprocal romance. In a classic case of ‘be careful what you wish for,’ this entity that’s wearing Nikki’s skin exhibits increasingly unhinged behavior to the point where things escalate dramatically. It turns out that the real Nikki is trapped inside her own body, unable to control what’s happening, leading to some extremely uncomfortable realizations where Baron’s physical relationship with her is concerned.

“Wait, isn’t Nikki the victim in the film, though? She’s the one who becomes some pathetic man’s object because of the wish he made. I just think it’s odd they’re adding her character like she’s the monster/villain or something, which she isn’t,” another fan explained.

“For anyone confused, Bear is the villain, but Nikki is the horror icon,” another interjected. “Hopefully the actors for Nikki are protected from creeps.”

Obsession was a hit at theaters, becoming the single highest-grossing film ever made on a budget of less than $1 million. Inde Navarrette’s performance as Nikki catapulted her to the spotlight almost instantly, with the star already meeting with the likes of Jake Schreier, director of the upcoming X-Men film, and even branching into voice acting for video games.
