This summer is certainly proving to look a little bit different, with six new actors joining the cast of “This Summer Will Be Different” as production begins on Prince Edward Island.
Based on Carley Fortune’s novel of the same name, Netflix announced new recurring cast members, including Jordan Rodrigues as Miles Lam, Jude Wilson as Zach, Natalie Brown as Christine, James Tupper as Ken, Tom Barnett as Peter and Cecilia Owen as Joy. They join previously announced stars Sophie Nélisse, Francesca Reale and Roby Attal.
The 10-episode series is a “simmering, sun-soaked romance set across multiple summers on Prince Edward Island about Lucy, a young woman navigating her 20s and her first real love with her best friend’s brother, the one person she was never supposed to fall for,” per the show’s logline.
“I’ve read the first episode script, and it’s great. It’s all moving very, very quickly, but it felt like it was almost like matchmaking, where you can see that this is the perfect fit,” Fortune told The Hollywood Reporter early July.
Also filming in Toronto, “This Summer Will Be Different” is directed by Karen Maine (“Nobody Wants This”), Jasmin Mozaffari (“Ginny & Georgia”) and Fab Filippo (“Sort Of”). Dane Clark and Linsey Steward serve as the series’ creators, showrunners and executive producers. Additional executive producers include Fortune and Sphere Media’s Jennifer Kawaja, Elise Cousineau and Sam Levine.
Prime Video previously adapted another one of Fortune’s novels, “Every Summer After,” as the series “Every Year After” this June, which starred Matt Cornett and Sadie Soverall.
