Neil Perry Claims He Was ‘Terminated’ From the Band Perry

Things are getting complicated for The Band Perry. On Tuesday night, Neil Perry, one of three Perry siblings, took to Instagram to explain his side of what he claims is the dissolution of the band. Perry is no longer a member of the group that’s now led by his sister Kimberly and her husband, Johnny Costello.

Via a post that points to some pivotal moments in June 2024 (and includes a clip of Rolling Stone’s Nashville Now podcast interview with Kimberly), Neil wrote that he was “terminated” from the Band Perry after a disagreement with his sister about who will remain in the lineup.

In a second post Wednesday, Neil elaborated, writing that he “explicitly asked my sister not to misrepresent my support for the current vision of the band,” seemingly a reference to Kimberly’s comments on the Nashville Now podcast where host Joseph Hudak asked if she was given her brother’s blessing in the new iteration of the band (she does not name Neil directly in the clip).

“I think they are very interested in the Band Perry getting landed as well,” Kimberly said. “This was my family band in the living room before everything else. And so I just really feel encouraged. Reid commented on our last post about [new single] ‘Psychological.’ He’s like, ‘I’ll be cheering from the bleachers,’ you know? And it’s just so cool to feel that love and support and to know that, hey, guys, I’ve got this. Everything that we built was so magical and so beautiful, and I’m gonna go land this with the same integrity that we started it with. And of course, there’s always an open seat for a brother in the band if they ever want to tour.”

“I believe it’s fair to correct a false narrative, especially after asking to not be misrepresented,” Neil tells Rolling Stone. “The formal termination letter made it clear the decision was final. I hope to continue making music and playing shows.”

Neil posted how he claims the band was not on consistent speaking terms in May 2024 when his sister came to him to resurrect the band without Reid, who he says was not interested. “I was presented with three options,” Neil wrote. “Move forward as a duo, hold auditions, or have her husband step in. I was fine with the first two, but soon understood Kimberly wanted to move forward with the third. We ultimately decided not to proceed.” Reid did end up rejoining the band at the time, the post claims, but Neil was “forced out by the 2/3 partnership agreement,” he wrote. Details of the specific agreement are not currently public knowledge, and Reid, who now works in artist management, posted that he was leaving the band last year.

Neil also posted his own version of the Netflix Documentary meme earlier today, showing him sitting down in a chair in front of multiple awards with the text “preparing for my Netflix documentary about how The Band Perry went from three siblings to my sister and her husband” on the screen. He points to his new project, Wolves of June, and a new pop single, “TNT.”

A rep for Kimberly and the Band Perry did not respond to Rolling Stone’s request for comment by press time.
