Meta Announces The Ray-Ban Display AI Glasses And Wristband

Meta has announced the Ray-Ban Display, a new pair of AI smart glasses that use an EMG wristband for advanced controls.

Mark Zuckerberg announced the new lasses at an event that included a range of AI announcements, but the Display will capture most people’s attention. They include a full-color, high-resolution display that gets out of the way when it’s not needed.

It does that, Meta says, by being located outside your main field of vision. It also only turns on when it’s required.

This breakthrough category of AI glasses comes with a full-color, high-resolution display that’s there when you want it — and gone when you don’t. The display is placed off to the side, so it doesn’t obstruct your view. And it isn’t on all the time — it’s designed for short interactions that you’re always in control of.

Meta believes that the glasses are designed to offer quick information and help with short tasks, rather than replace your phone. The glasses also include cameras, speakers, and microphones for communications and other built-in capabilities.

Alongside the glasses, the Meta Neural Band will take your hand movements and then use them to interact with what’s being shown on the glasses’ display. This is how Meta will get around the issue of controlling on-screen elements, but it remains to be seen how well it will work in the real world.

Each pair comes with Meta Neural Band, an EMG wristband that translates the signals created by your muscle activity into commands for your glasses — letting you control your experience intuitively using just subtle hand movements, without having to touch your glasses or take out your phone. Meta Neural Band is so effortless, it makes interacting with your glasses feel like magic.

The band is good for up to 18 hours of use before it needs to be charged, and it’s IPX7 water resistant so it can be used in the rain without toon many issues.

As for pricing, Meta says that the glasses will start at $799 and come with the Meta Neural Band included. The pair will become available to buy on September 30.
