The Duchess of Sussex is in talks to make her acting return in Netflix’s hit series The Gentlemen.

According to Variety, Meghan is in discussions to join the third season, which has yet to receive an official greenlight. The Gentlemen is a spin-off from the 2019 crime comedy of the same name with Guy Ritchie acting as creator of both.

Meghan’s role in the show is as-yet-unknown, with a contract reportedly still not in place and no official announcement.

Reports have emerged quickly after news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would relocate to the UK from the US, where they have lived for six years. It is believed that they will return in September, with early rumours suggesting it was related to Meghan’s return to acting.

Meghan’s best-known acting role was in the legal drama Suits, in which she played the character Rachel Zane for seven seasons. Her other small-screen appearances include CSI: NY and 90210, while film roles have included a small part in the comedy Horrible Bosses and 2015’s crime thriller Anti-Social. She also led two Hallmark movies: When Sparks Fly and Dater’s Handbook.

She recently filmed a cameo playing herself in the Amazon comedy Close Personal Friends alongside Brie Larson and Jack Quaid.

Harry and Meghan had previously signed a deal with Netflix in 2020 worth a reported $100m. It was renewed last year.

Meghan’s main release with the streamer was lifestyle series With Love, Meghan. The show received negative reviews from many critics, with the Guardian’s Chitra Ramaswamy calling it “toe-curling stuff” in a one-star review.

In a 2022 interview, Meghan claimed a return to acting was unlikely. “I’m done,” she said. “I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not.”

The first season of The Gentlemen proved to be a hit with both critics and audiences for Netflix. The second season will premiere in September with returning cast members Theo James and Kaya Scodelario joined by Love Island host Maya Jama.
