Paramount+ has unveiled first look photos and announced the premiere date for The Varnell Hill Show, a new half-hour workplace comedy starring Tommy Davidson as the talk show host first introduced nearly three decades ago in the Martin sitcom.

Martin Lawrence, who will make special appearances in the new series, and Davidson are executive producing The Varnell Hill Show alongside Bentley Kyle Evans. The eight-part rookie season for the spinoff will debut on Paramount+ on Sept. 1 and run on Tuesdays with new episodes until a finale on Oct. 13.

The Varnell Hill Show will center on Varnell (Davidson) “as he fights to stay relevant in a rapidly changing entertainment landscape. Between network executives eager to modernize the show, a chaotic writers’ room, celebrity guests, family drama, and his own outsized ego, Varnell quickly discovers that keeping a television empire together may be harder than building one in the first place,” according to a synopsis from the producers.

(L-R): Neil Brown Jr. as Thad, Tommy Davidson as Varnell Hill, Wendy Raquel Robinson as Rachel Perkins, Mina Quarterman as Courtney, and Tim Chantarangsu as George in ‘The Varnell Hill Show.’

The ensemble cast includes Kym Whitley, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Nick Cafero, Emmanuel Hudson and Chris Williams, alongside guest stars like Ms. Pat, Deon Cole, Damon Wayans, Mike Epps and Omarion.  Produced in association with BET Studios, the series is also executive produced by Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, Stacy Lyles, Rae Proctor, Robert Lawrence, Mark Greenberg, Andrew Horne, and Evans, who also serves as showrunner, writer and director.
