Julianne Moore will star in the world premiere of a new play by Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Ruhl this winter.
Moore will star in Faydra, a modern take on the Greek myth that sees Aphrodite aim her arrow at Faydra and make her fall in love with her own stepson, Hippolytus. Additional casting for the Off-Broadway production will be announced at a later date.
Performances for Faydra begin at New York City Center, Stage 1, starting Feb. 2, 2027, with an opening night scheduled for Feb. 25.
While best known for her film work, including her Academy Award-winning performance in Still Alice and roles in films such as Boogie Nights, The Big Lebowski, Far From Heaven, The End of the Affair, The Hours and May December, Moore got her start on the stage. She has since appeared on Broadway in 2006 in David Hare’s drama The Vertical Hour and in the stage workshop of Uncle Vanya, which she worked on with director Andre Gregory for four years, with that process later turned into a film.
Ruhl has previously penned The Clean House, Eurydice, For Peter Pan on Her 70th Birthday, and the Tony Award-nominated In the Next Room (or the vibrator play). Both The Clean House and In the Next Room were Pulitzer Prize finalists.
Moore previously worked with Waters on Caryl Churchill’s Ice Cream with Hot Fudge at the Public Theater in 1990, while Ruhl is a frequent collaborator with Waters.

We look forward to announcing additions to this exciting company in the months ahead.”
