Jimmy Kimmel on Trump’s joke about Iran bombing LA: ‘Our own president wishing death to America’ | Late-night TV roundup

Late-night hosts reacted to Donald Trump’s inflammatory comments about Iran bombing US cities as he continues to defend his war in the region.

    Jimmy Kimmel

As the US president’s approval ratings get lower, Jimmy Kimmel noted on Tuesday evening, something curious happens: “somehow his engine fills up with more and more self-esteem.”

The host referred to clips from Trump’s pre-midterms rally in North Dakota, where he claimed he was the Goat (greatest of all time), ahead of Washington and Lincoln.

“It’s so sad. He might be the most insecure person in the history of the world,” Kimmel laughed. “Remember when we all used to hate people who talked like that?

“I’m starting to understand why Trump likes going on these roadtrips,” he continued. “It’s not only a boost to his ego; it’s a chance for his number one fan and poster girl, Natalie Harp, his human printer, to see him in action and to get her in on the adoration too.”

Kimmel then played a clip of Trump bringing out Harp, Trump’s young assistant, on stage to deliver a printout. “I kinda get the feeling he’s sign anything she handed to him – executive order, lunch order, divorce papers, you name it,” Kimmel laughed.

Trump then appeared to leer at Harp as she left the stage. “Let me tell you: if the Epstein files were a facial expression, that would be it,” the host quipped. “I haven’t seen him that much in love since the last time he met with Mamdani.”

Later in his speech, Trump once again defended his war in Iran, but then suggested that Iran could bomb some US cities. “Let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego,” he said to cheers.

The “joke” did not go down well with Kimmel. “He’s talking about Iran bombing us, and I know he says a lot of crazy things, I know this is something we’ll forget about by Thursday when he accidentally swallows a baby at a rally or whatever the hell he does next, but that’s one of the craziest, most indefensible statements I have ever heard even this maniac make,” he said. “Openly musing about Iran, a country we are currently at war with, taking out two American cities while his adoring fans cheer him on. But it’s OK because we’re liberals, we deserve to be bombed.”

“Can someone please change this man’s diaper already?” he continued. “I think that old nut has been sitting in his excrement for too long. He has the ranta-virus, and it needs to be treated medically.

“Now we have our own president wishing death to America,” he added. “We already had a huge bomb here this weekend. It’s called ‘Digger,’ OK?”

    Seth Meyers

And on Late Night, Seth Meyers opened with Trump’s claim on Truth Social that gas prices are high because blue states like California are closing refineries.

“Really? Are you sure it has nothing to do with you bombing Iran for six months?” the host wondered. “Blaming California for high gas prices is like burning down your favorite restaurant and then getting mad at the Grubhub guy.”

Trump also posted that he would support a Senate bill that would extend daylight savings time year-round, writing “who wouldn’t want more ‘SUN’ in the afternoon than in the morning?”

“Uh … Stephen Miller?” Meyers joked, referring to the president’s hardline immigration adviser.

In other Trump news, the president made plans over the weekend to send $90 payments to roughly 20 million senior citizens to help with Medicare costs. “Wow, 90 dollars to spend on healthcare?” Meyers deadpanned. “He’s like an old man who still thinks you can give a kid a quarter to go to the movies.”

And former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced her next step, as she’s set to join Fox News next month. “Well, it makes sense,” said Meyers. “She’s got everything they’re looking for … she’s blond.”
