James Ellis Ford has shared a new solo single, ‘The Ever After’ – you can listen to it below.
The song is the latest preview of the renowned producer and former Simian Mobile Disco member’s second solo album, ‘Lost In Another World’, which is released on August 14 via Domino.
“It might seem a little odd to be trying to write dance music from a hospital bed but I was trying to lift my mood and focus on the positive things in my life,” Ford explained of the pulsating electronic tune.
“In that moment, my mind went to my little eight-year-old boy Frank, and the power he has to bring joy into the world and point the way to a better future.”
The hypnotic track comes on the heels of lead single ‘Overtones’. Tune in here:
Ford created ‘Lost In Another World’ from start to finish in just over two weeks in early 2025, when he was on a hospital ward between rounds of chemotherapy. This followed a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), an aggressive cancer of the white blood cells.
Speaking to NME about the record last month, Ford recalled: “The whole album was done in quite a short period, smack bang in the middle of when I was having chemo. I was having to be isolated in a little room on my own, which was quite a lonely and discombobulating experience. It’s quite hard to describe.”
The LP serves as the follow-up to Ford’s 2023 debut, ‘The Hum’.
“You never think something this serious is going to happen to you, at least I didn’t at this part of my life – I always felt pretty invincible,” he told NME.
“Then suddenly, it comes out of the blue and you’re faced with the fact that you might die! It’s quite an intense experience, as you might imagine. I had quite a lot of new things to process, new emotions.”

He added: “I got my wife to bring in a laptop and a microphone, [and] I started sketching some ideas. All of a sudden I just got into this little tunnel and made the whole record in a couple of weeks.”
The producer went on to explain that ‘Lost In Another World’ explores some “very specific things like a day I had out with my little boy and just realising how important the little things are, like trees, nature and those little moments”.
“I was apologising for not being there and not knowing how many of those moments we’d get in the future,” he said.
