Inde Navarrette is fresh off a breakout horror performance, but she’s still figuring out which horror movie actually scares her most.

The actress, who stars as the unpredictable Nikki in Obsession, has quickly become one to watch after the film’s global success. But her latest role has her trading in the horror screen for something a little more fashion-focused: Navarrette is starring alongside musician Malcolm Todd in Gap’s Fall 2026 “Denim on Your Own” campaign, which celebrates individuality and personal style through GapDenim.

For Navarrette, the campaign’s message hits close to home. “Dress for yourself and not anyone else,” she tells Rolling Stone.

We caught up with Navarrette to talk about bringing “Freaky Nikki” to life, the horror movies she loves, and why she thinks the louder your bangles are, the more trustworthy you become.

What made the Gap campaign feel like the right fit for you?
I had the freedom to bring Nikki to life in Obsession, and then I’ve had the freedom now with clothes. I feel like freedom was kind of my theme of the year, and so partnering with Gap just elevated that meaning because their whole thing is “Denim on Your Own.” That’s a very big aspect of what I believe — dress for yourself and not anyone else.

What does dressing for yourself look like?
Lately I’ve been doing a jean with a white tee, and I’ll have a little light sweater because it’s so hot outside. Also a good heel. I’ve been wearing nothing but heels lately, and it’s making me feel fabulous. Sometimes I like a chocolate heel with a wedge, and then jeans, low-rise, because I love my hip tattoos and I love showing them off. Then I’ll have a little white or black tee.

    Timeless Tank

    Gap Rib Scoop Tank Top

Made from soft ribbed stretch cotton, this Gap tank has a slim fit that forms to your shape. The scoop-neck, sleeveless design hits at the hip and works well as a standalone top or layering piece.

Is there a fashion trend you’re loving right now?
Bangles. The louder a girl is while she’s moving her hands, the more I trust her. Click-clacking. I go, “I trust her with my life.” People immediately go, “You know, she’d save me.”

Did your personal style influence Nikki’s wardrobe in Obsession?
I’m very kismet with Nikki. I feel like I brought a lot of myself to her, especially with the way that she dresses. Around the time the movie came out, that was very much my style — big, massive denim jackets, shorts and boots. Those Steve Madden boots that I wear in Obsession are mine, my personal ones that I brought to the fitting.

I felt like I brought a lot to her, but I loved that even though I brought so much, she was still so different for me to wear. She was a character. It didn’t feel like I was playing myself on screen. It just felt like I was playing a person that I deeply understood on screen.

What do you think made Nikki connect with audiences?
In order for me to play her, I really wanted for this character to be one where I let go of the part of my brain where I was scared of being perceived, and scared of being too big or too loud.

I think because I let go of that part of my brain, I was able to play her in such a real way. I think it’s so nice whenever we see performances like that because it makes us feel seen. When somebody is telling their truth and when somebody is being raw about something, it triggers an emotion in us of relating on that aspect.

What’s your all-time favorite horror movie?
Okay, Obsession. No, I’m kidding. Get Out by Jordan Peele. That film was so funny and scary at the same time, and I think that was the first time that I had ever watched something that was psychologically scary.

You’ve talked about letting go of the fear of being perceived. Has that changed how you dress, too?
I think that it’s an incredibly important aspect to have within yourself. Through independence, I get a sense of self that I don’t get when I’m with anybody else. What you like is what you like. Be free and comfortable. That’s what I want people to feel.
