Greenwich Council to decide on licence for new Secret Cinema venue

Entertainment company Secret Cinema, which produces immersive cinema experiences, has applied for a premises licence for its first long-term venue on the Greenwich Peninsula in south-east London.

The licence would allow the new location to remain open and sell alcohol until 23:30 BST on weekdays and midnight at weekends.

A decision is due to be made by Greenwich Council on 11 August, with the application receiving two objections from local residents, who both expressed concerns that the new venue could increase noise and disturbance to those living nearby.

The authority granted Secret Cinema planning permission to build a 1,500-seat venue last month.

The development is set to last for a temporary period of 10 years before the land is used for residential tower blocks as set out in the Greenwich Peninsula Masterplan, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Secret Cinema said: “The state-of-the-art immersive venue will be designed flexibly, as a potential home to a successive series of immersive productions based on some of the most famous and high profile film titles in the world.”
