The surprise return of Ted Lasso is definitely the biggest premiere on Apple TV this August, but we’re also going to get some decent variety from the quality-over-quantity service. There’s an adorable animated series for the kids, a new sports doc, and, of course, plenty of sci-fi.

What’s New on Apple TV in August
Ted Lasso Season 4 – Premiering August 5
Ted Lasso is officially entering its fourth season. You might be thinking, didn’t Ted (Jason Sudeikis) go home in a pretty conclusive ending to Season 3? Well now he’s back in Richmond to coach a second division women’s football team. Naturally, there will still be plenty of familiar faces, including Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), Roy (Brett Goldstein), and Keeley (Juno Temple), coming along for the ride.
Women in Blue Season 2 – Premiering August 12
This crime thriller series takes place in the 70s, when four Mexican women who are used by a police force to distract from a serial killer decide to put in the work to try and crack the case. Also known as Las Azules, the series is theoretically inspired by real events.
Stillwater Season 5 – Premiering August 21
One of Apple TV’s few animated children’s shows is coming back for a fifth season. Stillwater is based on Jon J. Muth’s book series Zen, which tells stories of siblings who learn life lessons from their neighbor, Stillwater the panda.
The Dynasty: UConn Huskies – Premiering August 21
The only documentary addition for the month, The Dynasty: UConn Huskies will trace 40 years of women’s basketball history at the University of Connecticut. The three-part series will cover the team’s time with head coach Geno Auriemma, which saw them win 12 national championships.
Dark Matter Season 2 – Premiering August 28
Dark Matter is an adaptation of a reality-bending book by Blake Crouch. In the words of Samantha Nelson, who reviewed the first season for IGN, “It’s a tale of a protagonist so desperate to get back the people they love that they’ll tear down the walls between realities.” Season 2 will continue to follow the Dessen family and the consequences of tearing down some of those multidimensional walls.
