E-Day’ soundtrack features a Metallica classic

A classic Metallica song will feature on the soundtrack for Gears Of War: E-Day alongside a range of themed weapon skins.

Gears Of War: E-Day is set to launch October 6 but some fans can take part in an early access open beta test later this week (August 6).

Ahead of that, publishers Xbox Game Studios have revealed more details about Gears Of War: E-Day. The prequel to 2006’s Gears Of War won’t feature any “bullshit” paid cosmetics but will include an evolved take on the beloved Horde mode, known as Horde Siege. “Set across the biggest multiplayer maps ever seen in the series, Horde Siege sets three squads of four out on their own individual missions across the same stage, resulting in wildly unpredictable battles,” reads a dedicated blog post.

Xbox Game Studios has also shared a new trailer showcasing Gears Of War: E-Day’s multiplayer mode, soundtracked by Metallica’s iconic ‘For Whom The Bells Toll’. Check it out below:

According to journalists who’ve played a preview of Gears Of War: E-Day, an instrumental version of ‘For Whom The Bells Toll’ is available in-game as one of four main menu soundtrack choices. A series of ‘Ride The Lightning’-themed weapon skins are also available to pre-order.

The composer for Gears Of Ear: E-Day is Adam Lastiwka, one of the in-house musicians at game developers The Coalition. He’s already shared a reworked version of Gary Jules’ take on ‘Mad World’ for the initial reveal trailer and original track ‘Emergence’ hit streaming earlier this year.

“We’re telling the origin story of Marcus and Dom and their bond [with Gears Of War: E-Day],” explained the game’s creative director Matt Searcy. “This is the bond that defines the franchise. They’re not the characters we know from Gears 1 to 3. They don’t have 10 years of fighting the Locust between them. When the game opens, there’s supposed to be peace on Sera, and they’re trying to figure out life without this person they both loved. People are going to see the formation of this brotherhood that is so iconic to Gears.”

In other news, Microsoft has confirmed how much more the Xbox Series X/S will cost in the UK and Europe and fans are furious about the “laughably outrageous” price hikes.
