    Damn, This GTA 6 Screenshot Looks So Good People Don’t Believe It’s Real

    Earlier today, Rockstar Games shared new information about the music and radio stations that will appear in Grand Theft Auto 6. Included with that news were a few new screenshots. And one particular screenshot featuring cars on a rainy street at night has got people freaking out and wondering if GTA 6 will actually look like this on consoles. And the answer is, yeah, probably. Mostly.

    On October 8, Rockstar revealed that numerous famous musicians, including Bad Bunny, would host some of the radio stations in GTA 6. We also got our first official confirmation of some of these stations and what kinds of music they’ll play, and learned that you’ll be able to listen to all of them on foot via your phone. But on the website sharing all this info, a background screenshot of GTA 6 caught many people’s attention, including my own. Here’s a direct link to a super high-res version of it.

    In the screenshot, we can spot a few different cars and people on a rainy street somewhere in the heart of Vice City at night. In the background, the neon lights of the Ocean View Hotel light up the buildings and wet pavement. And in the puddles, you can spot reflections of cars and other parts of the environment. It’s truly impressive, and fans online are freaking out over how good it looks while others are worried it might not be real or is doctored to look better than anything the actual game can produce when running on a PS5 in November.

    “Ain’t no way that first screenshot is real; it looks so good,” replied one person on social media.

    “Thought these were renders, but actual shots?” asked another user.

    Digital Foundry’s Oliver Mackenzie weighed in on the matter when pinged by GTA content creator Ben VideoTech, and suggested that Rockstar may be using some sort of debug photo mode that would allow them to turn up resolution and settings to make the shot look as good as possible. However, as pointed out by Mackenzie, if you look at the screenshot closely, you can start to notice some visual faults that suggest it could be a shot captured from the game running on PS5 Pro. But “it’s not really possible to tell.”

    For example, reflections further back in the image show obvious dithering, something we see all the time on reflections in most console games in 2026. You can also spot that shadows aren’t being drawn under pedestrians in the far distance. And if you look really far in the background and zoom in a lot, you can even spot what look like lower-poly people standing around.

    In the past, Rockstar has generally used real, in-game and in-engine footage and screenshots of its upcoming games for marketing screenshots and trailers. I remember when GTA V was coming out, people looked at screenshots of the game and swore Rockstar was using touched-up images or running the game on high settings on PC. However, looking back at GTA V‘s Xbox 360 screenshots in 2026, it’s very clear these were taken in the game. Perhaps captured using a debug tool that let Rockstar turn up some settings and add some extra lights and poses, but GTA V‘s pre-release shots are very representative of what the game looked like on Xbox 360 and PS3. This is true of other Rockstar titles, too, like Red Dead, Bully, and Max Payne 3. 

    I think what’s likely happened here is that Rockstar is running the game on a PS5 Pro devkit and is using some sort of debug menu to take a super-crisp screenshot of the game at its highest possible resolution. So while the final game might rarely look this perfect and clean, I do think that, yeah, GTA 6 is going to look incredible at night on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X. As for Xbox Series S, well, good luck, my friends.
