Chiefs’ Harrison Butker Nails 68-Yard Field Goal Against Buccaneers

NFL Preseason Week 2 brought the talent and the records. Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker knocked a 69-yard field goal against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which is, unofficially, the longest in NFL history.

The Chiefs are back in full form after bringing back tight end Travis Kelce on a new deal and quarterback Patrick Mahomes following a torn ACL in Week 15 last season.

While Butker’s kick would’ve broken the record for longest field goal in league history, Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Cam Little still holds the record with a 68-yard field goal against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9.

Butker has been impressive for Kansas City since he was drafted in 2017 from Georgia Tech. Butker has made 251 of his 285 field-goal attempts, with his longest a 62-yarder against the Buffalo Bills in Week 6 of the 2022 season. Butker’s record kick also stands as the longest field goal in Arrowhead Stadium history and a Chiefs franchise record.

Although his 68-yarder may not officially count, Butker’s accomplishment can be added to his long list of achievements in a Chiefs jersey. Additionally, Butker was the highest-paid kicker until this offseason, when Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey signed a contract extension that passed Butker’s current deal.

The Kansas City Chiefs will open their 2026 campaign at home against the Denver Broncos for an AFC West showdown on Monday, Sept. 14.
