We know Edward Bluemel will play the legendary Belgian detective Poirot in the upcoming BritBox and BBC series Hercule, and now we have the lowdown on the rest of the cast joining him in the Agatha Christie adaptation.

Here are the ten new names: Henry Ashton (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), James D’Arcy (Oppenheimer), Calvin Demba (Supacell), Phil Dunning (Smoggie Queens), Jack Gleeson (House of Guinness), Tamsin Greig (Riot Women), James Nesbitt (Cold Feet), Guy Remmers (The Buccaneers), Rebecca Rittenhouse (Maggie) and Mawaan Rizwan (The Split Up).

The six-part adaptation will chronicle how Poirot became the world’s greatest detective. Cameras are set to roll soon. The shoot will primarily take place in Liverpool. The series comes from Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited.

The series is billed as an intimate study of Hercule Poirot the man and a portrait of Britain between the world wars. It will center on three of Christie’s early stories, while also introducing Hercule Poirot to future friends and allies and, producers said, one particular nemesis.

Benji Walters (Obsession) is the writer. The first two episodes will be directed by Jonny Campbell (Am I Being Unreasonable?). Chanya Button (Doctor Who) will direct the second two eps, and Alrick Riley (Bridgerton) the final two installments. Charlie Palmer (Extraordinary) is series producer.

Production company Mammoth Screen brings a wealth of experience to proceedings. It previously produced Christie adaptations And Then There Were None and Murder Is Easy for the BBC. Mammoth Screen founder Damien Timmer has also executive-produced Agatha Christie’s Poirot, the classic ITV series with David Suchet in the title role.

Fifth Season is handling global distribution of Hercule. The series looks to be a hot presale property at the MIPCOM sales market come October.

Deadline was first with the news that Hercule was in the works, back in April, and then the Bluemel casting in June. The series will be on the BBC and BritBox in North America in 2027.
