Spider-Man: Brand New Day almost had even more MCU cameos, and one of them may have fixed a slight plot hole.
At the end of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, our beloved wall-crawler jumps in front of a bullet for Jean Grey after The Punisher takes a shot at her. This heroic moment nearly kills him, but he’s thankfully rushed to a hospital, with Jean Grey using her powers to keep him alive until doctors stabilize him. However, fans have raised a concern regarding the fact Peter is unmasked in his hospital room, as this would mean there are at least a handful of random people who know his secret identity.
Of course, it’s just the nature of the situation, and Peter probably places some trust in the people saving his life. However, there was a cut scene that may have actually helped explain this. According to a post from @JuanEditz on X (who had accurately leaked some details about the film’s marketing plans), Claire Temple had a small role in Brand New Day. Rosario Dawson previously confirmed that she reprised her Daredevil role in the film, but didn’t reveal the specifics.

Now, the X user claims that in a deleted scene, doctors would’ve cut Peter out of his suit and left his mask on to protect his secret identity. He would’ve then woken up with his mask still on and then bumped into Claire in the hallway, who was examining an X-Ray. The two would’ve had a “cute” interaction, and that would’ve been the end of it. Juan noted that he wasn’t sure if Claire was in the room when they cut Spidey’s suit off, but speculated that it was certainly possible.
The scene likely would’ve fixed fan concerns regarding Peter being unmasked by strangers. Claire Temple also likely knows the importance of maintaining a secret identity, since she patched up Daredevil on multiple occasions and has experience with a sensitive matters like this one. As of right now, it’s unclear whether Claire will return in a future Marvel project, such as Daredevil: Born Again Season 3.
Nevertheless, none of this actually hurt the movie. Brand New Day just had the biggest domestic opening in history, dethroning Avengers: Endgame. It’s also on track to score over $2 billion at the box office and is among some of the best-reviewed Marvel films in history.
