The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has caused a surge in people playing Spider-Man video games.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hit cinemas last month and has already broken box office records, becoming the second-fastest film to gross more than $1billion. The film sees Tom Holland’s Spider-Man teaming up with The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) and The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) to deal with a mysterious threat that’s causing issues across New York.

Following the success of the movie, people are returning to the Spider-Man video games. Polygon reports that Google search terms for “new Spider-Man game” and “Spider-Man Brand New Day game” have seen a 40 per cent increase since the launch of Brand New Day while concurrent player numbers for Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have also hit new heights.

According to SteamDB, Marvel’s Spider-Man’s player count hit a four-year high yesterday (August 4) with the sequel also attracting the most players it’s had since it launched for PC in January 2025. To celebrate the launch of Brand New Day, a number of outfits inspired by the movie were added to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and a special Fortnite collab is currently live.

In several interviews, Holland has spoken about his love for Insomniac’s “absolutely sensational” Marvel’s Spider-Man series. “I was actually playing [the game] last night,” Holland told IGN at the red carpet for the movie. “I couldn’t sleep last night, I was so excited about today. I was trying to figure out what I was gonna do, and I was like, ‘I’ll just throw the game on and have some fun’.

He’s also confirmed a lot of the fight scenes and other moments from Brand New Day were influenced by the Marvel’s Spider-Man games.

Earlier this year Peter Parker game actor Ben Jordan teased that work has started on a new Marvel’s Spider-Man game. It comes after Peter Parker voice actor Yuri Lowenthal confirmed he would feature heavily in the unannounced Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, after the previous game ended with Miles Morales as the main Spider-Man. “Peter is not gone,” said Lowenthal. “He will be a part of the next game and he won’t be relegated to the couch, I promise.”

In other news, the live-action Life Is Strange adaptation will “disappoint” some gamers, says series co-creator Mike Golderg.
