The tie-up will focus on the decarbonisation of Singapore’s data centre industry
[SINGAPORE] The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star) is partnering Amogy, a provider of ammonia-to-power solutions, as part of its sustainable energy efforts.
The parties signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday (Sep 22) to develop technology to scale Amogy’s proprietary ammonia-to-power systems – which crack ammonia into hydrogen that is then converted into electricity – and deploy them in Singapore.
Amogy said that its ammonia-to-power systems could present a viable and scalable low to zero-carbon alternative to fossil fuels.
Under the collaboration, both parties will explore piloting such systems on Jurong Island. They will validate the performance of clean ammonia technologies in real-world conditions and drive their transition from lab-scale to commercial applications.
They will engage in joint research and development on advanced ammonia-cracking catalyst technologies, and A*Star will provide expertise in safety and standards as well as assess costs and sustainability.
One area the partnership will focus on is supporting the decarbonisation of Singapore’s data centre industry, which is set for rapid growth and poses clean energy challenges due to its power demands, Amogy said.

Professor Lim Keng Hui, assistant chief executive of A*Star’s science and engineering research council, said that he looks forward to the programme contributing to Singapore’s economic and sustainability goals.
Amogy provides carbon-free energy solutions to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors such as power generation, maritime shipping and heavy industry. The firm is headquartered in New York and backed by investors including Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund, SK Innovation and Aramco Ventures.
