People who need prism correction for their vision can now use the Apple Vision Pro, after Apple added a new Digital Prism Correction feature.
The new feature will be good news to the “very small percentage of people” who Apple said would not be able to use the Apple Vision Pro because of their prism prescription. Apple offers prescription lens inserts for the headset, but only in a limited range and, importantly, without prism.
Now, visionOS 26 has changed things by adding a new Digital Prism Correction feature that allows wearers to configure their Apple Vision Pro to compensate for their own prism prescription — albeit with limitations.
The Digital Prism Correction feature supports prism prescriptions up to 7.75 Prism Diopters (PD) in the horizontal and/or vertical direction — i.e., base-in (BI), base-out (BO), base-up (BU), and base-down (BD) — and the equivalent range in polar direction (0-359°), per eye.
The values configured by the Apple Vision Pro wearer will be associated with their lens inserts, but it’s only currently available to those who use the headset in the United States. There is no word on when an international launch will take place.
The Apple Vision Pro remains an expensive purchase for spatial computing early adopters, but that could change. Rumors continue to suggest that Apple is working on a more budget-friendly version of the headset, but price and timeframes are still unclear.
