Reports have emerged that Jared Leto has lost out on a major film role due to sexual misconduct allegations made against him in a documentary.

Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, which is available on BBC iPlayer now, features allegations from 10 women relating to alleged encounters with the Oscar-winning actor and Thirty Seconds To Mars frontman between 2002 and 2016.

Four of the women have accused the actor of criminal sexual conduct when they were teenagers, including sexual assault, statutory rape and grooming. Jared Leto has denied the allegations, stating: “I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false.”

Website Page Six has now quoted sources who claim that the star is no longer involved with a major upcoming movie because of the allegations. Leto was said to be in talks to join political thriller Assassination, directed by Barry Levinson (Good Morning, Vietnam), with the article describing the negotiations as “seeming like a done deal.”

However, it then claims that a source close to the production told them that the allegations made about the actor “became impossible to ignore”. The piece said that the project will be moving ahead without his casting. Neither Levinson nor the production have publicly commented on the report.

Jared Leto won an Oscar in 2014 for his performance in The Dallas Buyers Club, and has since appeared in films such as Blade Runner 2049, Suicide Squad, and Morbius. He was most recently seen in the fantasy adventure Masters Of The Universe, playing villain Skeletor in a role that obscured his face with motion capture. His IMDb page currently lists him as attached to the movie Lunik Heist, which co-stars Lupita Nyong’o and is directed by Kemp Powers (Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse).

Recently Alice McShane, the director of the documentary that levelled the accusations at Leto, said it is a “mystery” that the claims have not impacted his career.
