Amazon Picks Up ‘Baywatch’ Reboot Internationally

Amazon Prime Video is hitting the beach.

Amazon has snatched up multiple international territories for the upcoming Baywatch reboot, picking up the hot lifeguard adventure series for much of Europe, including France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, as well as for Canada, Latin America and India, among other territories.

As part of the deal, Amazon will also license the complete Baywatch back catalogue, including all nine seasons of the original Baywatch, and seasons 9 and 10 of the show, which was rebranded Baywatch Hawaii in the same territories. (Not included, though, are the two seasons of the less-fondly-remembered spin-off series Baywatch Nights.)

The new Baywatch stars Stephen Amell alongside Jessica Belkin, Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck, and Brooks Nader. Matt Nix (Burn Notice, The Gifted) serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside executive producers McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz. McG (Charlie’s Angels) will direct the series premiere episode.

The reboot is billed as a celebration of the original series “re-energized” for a new generation. The original Baywatch, starring David Hasselhoff, was canceled after its first season on NBC, but survived through syndication and became a massive global hit. At its peak, it was the most-watched show in the world, airing in over 200 countries and reaching more than a billion viewers every week. In addition to Anderson, the show launched the careers of actors such as Carmen Electra, Jason Momoa and Yasmine Bleeth.

Fremantle and Fox Entertainment are producing the show. The first 12-episode season will debut on Fox in January 2027 and on Prime Video later in the year. Fox Entertainment Global holds all domestic distribution rights. Fremantle is handling all international sales and brokered the Amazon deal.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Prime Video to bring the new Baywatch to audiences across multiple territories, while also giving fans the opportunity to revisit the original series they know and love,” said Michela Di Mondo, executive vp, distribution, Canada & international at Fremantle, in a statement. “Few shows have made as big a splash or had such lasting cultural impact…This is just the beginning of what we believe will be an exciting new chapter for Baywatch.”
