    In summary:

    • Macworld reports Apple is preparing a comprehensive Mac lineup refresh starting this fall, with updates planned for every Mac model currently sold.
    • New MacBook Air and MacBook Neo with A19 Pro chips are expected early next year, while M5/M6 chip upgrades will arrive for Mac mini, Mac Studio, and iMac models.
    • A redesigned MacBook Pro featuring M7 chips and OLED touchscreens is planned for 2027, representing Apple’s most significant Mac transformation in years.

While the world waits for new iPhones to land in just a couple of months, Apple is quietly preparing major changes to its lineup of Macs and MacBooks. According to a new Bloomberg report, Apple is prepping new versions of “every Mac it sells,” beginning this fall.

The “wave of new computers” is expected to begin this fall with M6 updates to the 14-inch MacBook Pro (codenamed J804) and iMac (J833 and J834). It’s not clear whether the new iMac, which hasn’t had a design upgrade since 2021, will bring any changes beyond the new chip.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman notes that the new MacBook Pro “looks like the current 14-inch version,” though a redesigned version (K104) is due later in 2027 with an M7 chip following a touchscreen overhaul to the 14-inch and 16-inch models.

The report reiterates that Apple is planning “a high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook with a refresh design and a touch screen that uses OLED display technology.” As previously reported, the new MacBooks (K114 and K116) will use M5 Pro and M5 Max chips rather than M6 variants as Apple accelerates development of the M7 family of chips.

Gurman says Apple is testing these laptops with iOS 27.1, which is expected to arrive in late October, though the release could be delayed until 2027. It’s not clear from the report whether standard models will be available alongside touchscreen models.

Apple is also planning M6 updates to the MacBook Air (J913 and J915) and a 2nd-gen MacBook Neo with “an updated A19 Pro chip and more memory.” These models are expected to arrive early next year.

Finally, Apple is also working on new Mac mini and Mac Studio models with upgraded chips. As with the MacBook Pro, the Mac mini is expected to use a base M6 alongside M5 Pro models, while the Mac Studio uses M5 Mac and a new M5 Ultra. Gurman says the timing of these models is dependent on the state of memory-chip supplies.

As it stands, the Mac mini and Mac Studio are sold out until the fall. Apple recently raised prices on its Macs by as much as $500 due to the rising cost of RAM and other components. It’s unclear whether these updates will bring even higher prices or whether the touchscreen MacBook Pros will have higher starting prices.
