Apple Reportedly Testing ChatGPT-Style App For Siri Upgrade

Apple is quietly working on a big upgrade for Siri, and according to Bloomberg, the company is using a special internal app to test new features.

Think of it as a ChatGPT-like tool, but one that Apple employees use behind the scenes rather than something regular users can download.

The app helps Apple experiment with how the next version of Siri might handle longer conversations, remember past chats, and even follow up on earlier questions. It’s basically a sandbox for Apple to see what works, what doesn’t, and whether a chatbot-style interface makes sense for Siri’s future.

Interestingly, Apple executives aren’t fully convinced about chatbots as the way forward. Craig Federighi, Apple’s software chief, said earlier this year that the company wants AI to feel integrated into your everyday experience rather than a separate chatbot you launch on the side. That means Siri’s future could look less like ChatGPT and more like a smart assistant that’s built into every app and task on your iPhone.

Reports suggest Apple is testing two versions of this next-gen Siri. One runs on Apple’s in-house AI models, while the other uses external models from companies like Google. The target is to roll out the upgraded Siri in spring 2026, complete with smarter in-app actions and personal context.

On top of that, Apple is also working on something called “Answers,” which is said to be a ChatGPT-like search experience powered by Apple’s own AI services.

So while we might not get an Apple-branded chatbot anytime soon, it’s clear the company is putting serious thought into how Siri can finally catch up with the AI competition.
