Sony’s superhero blockbuster “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” stormed to the top of the U.K. and Ireland box office, recording an opening frame of £36.4 million ($48.9 million).
The total marks the third-highest opening in U.K. history, trailing only “Avengers: Endgame” ($58.3 million) and “Spectre” ($55.5 million). Across its pure three-day weekend (Friday–Sunday), the web-slinger collected $31.5 million from 716 locations for a $44,056 site average – registering as the fourth-biggest weekend launch of all time behind “Endgame,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.”
Universal’s “The Odyssey” moved to second place in its third weekend of release. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the epic feature added $9.1 million over the frame, driving its cumulative local gross to $67.7 million.
Disney claimed the third position with Pixar’s “Toy Story 5,” which added $1.4 million in its seventh frame. The animated hit lifted its seven-week running total to $69.7 million. Universal’s “Minions & Monsters” followed in fourth place during its fifth weekend, taking $1 million for a cumulative total of $19.3 million.
Disney’s live-action “Moana” finished fifth in its fourth week of release, collecting $967,566 to raise its running cume to $14 million. Black Bear’s ensemble comedy-drama “The Invite” occupied sixth place in its fifth weekend, banking $256,325 to push its cume to $4.6 million.
Universal’s “Obsession” captured seventh place in its 12th frame, taking $187,276 for a total of $26 million. Studiocanal’s “Evil Dead Burn” held eighth spot in its fourth frame, adding $97,676 for a cume of $3.1 million.
BFI Distribution entered the chart at ninth place with Imran Perretta’s Venice Critics’ Week selection “Ish,” which recorded an opening weekend of $41,900. Rounding out the top 10, TGS Cinemas Limited’s Indian political action feature “Jana Nayagan” added $35,449 in its sophomore session, bringing its total to $735,621.
Looking ahead to the upcoming theatrical frame, Laverock Productions is releasing Ian Findlay’s agricultural documentary “A Dairy Story” and Dogwoof launching “David Byrne’s American Utopia” alongside CinemaLive’s event presentation “Turandot On Sydney Harbour – Opera Australia 2016. Also coming up is the music event release “Ateez: Light the Way in Cinemas.”
Wide-circuit launches Include Paramount’s animated sequel “Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie,” Warner Bros.’ fantasy revival “Practical Magic,” Disney’s comedy entry “Super Troopers 3” and Studiocanal’s horror title “Ice Cream Man.”
Releases also include Netflix’s drama “A Child of My Own,” Conic’s “The Summer Book,” Dreamz Entertainment’s Indian feature “Korean Kanakaraju,” Peccadillo Pictures’ drama “Love Me Tender,” Radiance Films’ classic title “Nadja,” and TAPE Collective’s “Bouchra.”
Archival and anniversary releases include Park Circus re-issuing Aardman’s animated comedy “Flushed Away” alongside Vertigo Releasing showcasing the 10th Anniversary restoration of Taika Waititi’s “Hunt For The Wilderpeople”.
Weekend event cinema offerings conclude with Piece Of Magic Entertainment presenting “Andre Rieu’s 2026 Summer Concert: Viva Maastricht!” and Trafalgar Releasing debuting “Grateful Dead Meet-Up At The Movies 2026.”
