Rosario Dawson has revealed that she filmed a cameo in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” but it “got cut out.”
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Dawson plays Claire Temple, a nurse who treats injured superheroes. She first appeared in the debut season of “Daredevil” in 2015, and has reprised the role in MCU series including “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist” and “The Defenders.”
During a “Daredevil” fan Q&A alongside Vincent D’Onofrio at GalaxyCon in Raleigh, North Carolina, Dawson was asked which superhero she most wanted to work with and let slip that Claire was actually meant to return once again in the box office hit “Brand New Day.”
“Well, I’m going to have to say — I could have said Spider-Man,” Dawson said. “I even shot a scene in the new ‘Spider-Man’ movie, but I got cut out.”
In response to groans from the crowd, Dawson added: “I know. I told my mom, and she was like, ‘That sucks. Now I can’t post the pictures.’ And I was like, ‘Right mom, me being cut out of the movie that has the largest viewership of a trailer ever, the issue is you can’t post the BTS photos.’”
Dawson went on to explain how much Spider-Man means to her, saying that her uncle is a comic book artist and that was the first character he learned how to draw.
“There’s a frame in one of the new comics that has a young Spider-Man talking to Daredevil, and they made it so that the young Spider-Man goes to PS19 in the Lower East Side, which is where I went to elementary school,” Dawson continued. “So when I tell you my post was already ready with my BTS, with my grandson wearing all his Spider-Man stuff … Then I got the email that was like, ‘Yeah, nah.’”
Even though Dawson called herself “a reject of Spider-Man,” she hopes that one day her character might still cross paths with the web-slinging hero.
“Because everybody’s in it, it still means that my character is somewhere in that same universe, and I really love that,” she said. “So, I hope I get to be Claire again.”
The fourth “Spider-Man” film led by Tom Holland, “Brand New Day” has absolutely smashed the box office, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year so far with over $1.6 billion worldwide. It crossed the $1 billion mark in just six days, making it the second-fastest movie to hit that milestone.
