Published Fri, Oct 16, 2026 · 11:00 AM[JAKARTA] Months of sustained wildfires in Indonesia have caused a spike in respiratory illnesses and blanketed several South-east Asian countries in hazardous haze, with Singapore and Malaysia also hit badly over the last week. The pollution has stoked political tensions across the region, with officials questioning Jakarta’s handling of the fires as well as its reluctance to accept help from its neighbours. What is the source of the haze? The haze is made up of fumes from forest and peatland fires across Indonesia, most notably on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra, which are made up…
Sony, in an attempt to become one of the worst Android OEMs at supporting its hardware, announced this week that the Xperia 10 VI, released in mid-2024, will not receive the Android 17 upgrade. Womp, womp. The reasoning is due to a technical issue, with the company determining that the device’s storage configuration simply doesn’t provide an adequate experience for the Android 17 upgrade to be doable. To remind you, the Xperia 10 VI shipped with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset with 8GB RAM and a base of 128GB storage. Sony originally committed to just three years of OS…
Comic James Acaster, possibly the most reluctant traitor in recent memory, accurately called killing off Beckett a “chaos murder”. “This is a bunch of faithful who read into everything,” he said. “They go, why did this happen? And with this murder, there’s no answer, and they won’t suspect it’s us.”More accurately, he should perhaps have said: “They won’t suspect me or Maya,” given only two-thirds of this tactic worked.Meanwhile, the task for this episode made some of the celebrities quite jumpy. This was despite it not involving being buried alive, drinking stinky water or diving down an old toilet, all…
WASHINGTON — Open enrollment for Medicare plans begins Thursday and enrollees will face a slew of changes that go into effect in 2027. During the enrollment period, which ends Dec. 7, people will have the opportunity to choose between traditional Medicare and privately run Medicare Advantage plans in their area, as well as prescription drug plans. Those changes go into effect on Jan. 1. Open enrollment also comes as inflation adds pressure on seniors whose healthcare costs have risen and as midterm elections are weeks away. Voters have consistently said cost-of-living is a major concern headed into the elections. The…
Urban Meyer laughed when he saw the words in front of him.He was sitting in a meeting with Gene Smith, Ohio State’s athletic director at the time, reviewing the objectives for the Buckeyes’ head coaching job — one Meyer was about to accept. And on a piece of paper, the statement “win every game” was written out.Meyer couldn’t believe it. Ohio State would be his fourth college head coaching job, and he had already won two national championships at Florida. He doesn’t recall whether the directive made it into his contract, and it was part of a broader conversation about the…

IDX said it would seek further clarification from the index provider on the considerations behind its announcement[JAKARTA] Indonesia faces the prospect of losing its emerging-market status in MSCI’s global equity benchmarks, a rare setback that could further undermine investor confidence as the country grapples with concerns over market transparency and accessibility.MSCI on Oct 16 early morning, launched a consultation on a potential reclassification of Indonesia from an emerging market to a standalone market.A move to standalone status would remove Indonesian equities from MSCI’s emerging and frontier market indexes, potentially prompting investment funds tracking those benchmarks to reassess or unwind their…
AIThis post was created with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI).The best NVIDIA graphics card for most buyers in this roundup is the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5070 12GB, balancing current-generation features with a more practical tier than the RTX 5080 models. For demanding 4K gaming and creative workloads, the RTX 5080 Founders Edition is a strong alternative, while the RTX 3060 12GB remains a useful lower-tier choice when memory capacity matters more than access to the newest generation. The main tradeoffs are performance headroom versus system cost, graphics memory versus GPU generation, and large-card cooling versus case fit.…
A celebrity-filled cast. A director best known for his work on the Eric Andre show. One of the most iconic and beloved franchises in gaming. What could go wrong? Apparently quite a lot. The Street Fighter movie is getting panned by many critics. Not quite as bad as 2024’s Borderlands adaptation, but still very far from great. Starring Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Andrew Koji as Ryu, and Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Hollywood’s latest attempt to cash in on Capcom’s longrunning fighting game series marketed itself from the jump as a very silly affair. Cody Rhodes looks absurd as Guile.…
