Apple has delayed the debut of “The Savant,” a new Apple TV+ thriller starring Jessica Chastain, just days before its scheduled premiere.

The Savant was originally set to launch on September 26, but Apple has removed the date from its platforms. Mentions of the premiere were pulled from Apple’s social media, and in the TV app the show now appears with the label “coming at a later date”.

Apple hasn’t provided a new release date or commented publicly on the change, according to 9to5Mac. The adjustment means the series remains on the service’s slate but without a confirmed timeline.

About “The Savant”

According to early descriptions, the story follows Chastain’s character as she infiltrates online groups in an effort to stop planned acts of violence. Beyond that, there’s not much to say plot-wise, but the story will clearly touch on some sensitive subjects.

A trailer released in August introduced the premise and generated both interest and criticism. Those that disliked the trailer reportedly took issue with the supposed misrepresentation of right-wing ideology, while others took an outright misogynistic position, suggesting the concept of a woman infiltrating these groups seemed unlikely.

Apple may have hit pause on The Savant because its story treads on sensitive ground. The show centers on Jessica Chastain’s character embedding herself in extremist online groups to stop violence, a setup that hits too close to home on recent events.

As 9to5Mac pointed out, this isn’t the first time Apple TV+ has delayed a high-profile project. The third season of “Tehran” finished production in 2023 and aired on Israeli broadcaster Kan 11 in December 2024, but its Apple TV+ debut remains on hold — likely due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.

For now, The Savant remains part of Apple’s original programming lineup, but its debut has shifted. AppleInsider has reached out for comment from Apple, but has not received any word on the cancellation or the show’s new premiere schedule.
