China’s Foreign Ministry said Saturday that Beijing respects the Trump administration’s decision to adopt the term “Super Intelligence” in place of “artificial intelligence,” following bilateral summit talks in the United States where technology policy featured prominently.
The response follows efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump to officially rename artificial intelligence across federal terminology. U.S. officials consistently substituted “Super Intelligence” for “AI” during a Friday press briefing outlining the outcomes of the summit between the American and Chinese heads of state.
In a statement released Sept. 26, a spokesperson for the China Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that artificial intelligence was a major focus of the high-level meeting.
“During the summit between the two heads of state, the two sides held in-depth discussions on artificial intelligence,” the spokesperson said. “Regarding the terminology for artificial intelligence, China attaches importance to the U.S. position and respects the U.S. formulation.”
The spokesperson added that as technology evolves, international partners should adjust to emerging realities to foster diplomatic alignment.
“Artificial intelligence technology is continuously developing,” the spokesperson noted. “All parties can build on the latest developments to strengthen exchanges, conduct in-depth discussions, and seek consensus.”
