I have been a Lifeweaver support main for years. Even when the pansexual king was arguably the worst character in the game at launch in 2023, I stood beside him and threw healing plants at my teammates and spikey thorns at my foes. The best part of his kit is Life Grip, an ability that allows him to pull a teammate toward himself and, ideally, safety. I have saved my tanks from dashing into their deaths, ruined many a Jetpack Cat ult by pulling her dangling victim from the clutches of her tether, and gotten my support duo out from under the dangerous swarm of many a dive character. I’ve done this thousands of times, and if I have learned anything as a Lifeweaver main, hanging back and observing team behavior and saving those near death, it’s that people who complain about getting Life-Gripped out of a bad situation cannot be trusted to opt out of the ability. And yet, Blizzard has given everyone that choice in Season 4.

As part of Season 4’s new patch, Lifeweaver’s Life Grip has been tweaked to allow those who are being pulled across the map a window of reactivity to jump out of Lifeweaver’s grasp. The ability will pull teammates more slowly, and if you’re further away from Lifeweaver when it’s cast, it will start even slower and accelerate over time. This is meant to give players who don’t want to be pulled out a window to cancel it entirely and stay put. However, I have seen that those who detest the viney leash are very often the ones who need it most. I can’t count how many times Reinhardt has gotten pissed that I pulled him out of a Tank 1v1 because they weren’t looking at their own health bar to see they were one swing away from death. Mapping the cancel to the jump button also seems like a misfire because it’s very easy to instinctually jump when you’re in a bad situation, and I could see even people who don’t want to cancel accidentally doing so.

Luckily, for all my dribbling babies who carelessly feed and for the cooperative teammates who know that after years of trustworthy Lifeweavers saving them from death that they would be canceling Life Grip at their own peril, there is an option to turn this off. Everyone, boot up Overwatch with me and give yourself over to the Life Grip once more. Go to Options and scroll to the Hero menu, where you’ll see a new toggle for “Enable Life Grip cancel controls.” Turn it off. Just do it. I know what I’m doing, and I pulled you for a reason.
