From record players to camcorders, the younger generation is seeking out analog alternatives to almost every piece of modern tech. Amid the “dumb phone” trend that’s sent people scrambling to find a device lacking all the apps and features of modern smartphones, Motorola is introducing its Razr line to a whole new subset of consumers while arguing that you can have the best of both worlds (that is, cutting-edge convenience and a distraction-free experience).

To ring in 22 years of the Razr — which started off as a clamshell-shaped flip phone with an external screen and an aluminum body, selling 130 million units and quickly becoming one of the most popular mobile devices in history — Motorola has been busy activating at this year’s key social happenings and creating some of its own.

The Razr Motorola Fashion Show debuted the 2026 Razr family and effectively positioned the Pantone color-wrapped phone lineup as a tech style statement. The most significant recent occurrence, though, was Motorola’s takeover of the first-ever Ferris wheel at Lollapalooza. Dubbed the Razr Wheel, in partnership with Live Nation, it treated festivalgoers to a taste of Coachella‘s most famous landmark, right from the grounds of Grant Park.
“As a brand with deep roots in Chicago, Lollapalooza was a natural opportunity for Motorola to bring our Razr brand to life in a way that felt deeply connected to our hometown and to the audience and culture we’re trying to influence,” Maria Jose Martin, North America marketing director at Motorola, tells Rolling Stone. “Razr has always been a symbol of self-expression, individuality, and seeing things differently. The Razr Wheel brought that philosophy to life by literally giving people a new perspective while creating a moment that was uniquely their own.”

Proprietary Moto AI, as well as integration with Google Gemini, makes this phone a trusty assistant in every setting.
At Lollapalooza 2026, our team saw Motorola show up in more ways than one.
Sure, its logo was plastered on what very well could’ve been Chicago’s most-photographed structure that weekend, and a Motorola sign atop the nearby Railway Exchange Building greeted the festival’s approximately 115,000 daily visitors. But we also spotted multiple Razrs in the hands of said visitors — who took advantage of the phone’s more compact, folded configuration while filming their favorite musicians, snapping selfies with face glitter and crochet caps on, and sending texts to group chats.

On offer: a crisp, cinematic display and a top-of-the-line, AI-powered camera.
After testing out the Motorola Razr, we found it to be superior in many ways to non-foldable counterparts. Without so much as opening the phone up to its full size, we could navigate to and from Grant Park’s Buckingham Fountain, blast our go-to songs before the artists sang them live, and pay for endless Aperol spritzes with easy-to-access Google Wallet.

The Razr‘s camera quality was also outstanding — a nonnegotiable for events like this one — and could be used when the phone was slightly folded, fully flipped in a horizontal manner, or unfolded. Like festival-season dressing, the newest Motorola Razr is all about personality: pampering users with the ability to install customized video wallpapers, modify the onscreen font, elevate their photos courtesy of AI, and, of course, pick an exterior hue that matches their aesthetic to a T.
The latest options in that department include Pantone Violet Ice, Pantone Bright White, Pantone Sporting Green, and Pantone Hematite, epitomizing Motorola’s exclusive, multiyear partnership with the color authority.

Benefits from a titanium-reinforced hinge for effortless flipping all day long (and a seamless, streamlined appearance).
Thanks to that 256GB storage capacity, we weren’t afraid of taking one too many videos, downloading apps for getting around the city and keeping track of the Lolla schedule, or otherwise maximizing our time with the phone. As for the Razr‘s run time on a single charge, it’s safe to say it made portable power banks a non-issue — granting over 36 hours of battery life and charging in a heartbeat (read: just 15 minutes).

Motorola’s Chicago homecoming was nothing short of a smash hit, and it reinforced the brand’s core belief that pervading cultural spaces in an intentional, authentic way is bound to make your product a cultural touchpoint: allowing individuals to spark new connections and enrich old ones with technology.
Unlike its Y2K prototype, the 2026 Motorola Razr lets you do more than just shoot off SMS messages, place phone calls, and capture grainy, short clips, but the company’s original intention — to squeeze maximum innovation into a pocket-sized gadget while helping customers maximize the present moment — still stands.
