A Zelda-Themed Special Edition Switch 2 Has Leaked

It looks like the very first special edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 console has leaked, and no shocker at all, it’s themed around the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and the Zelda franchise’s 40th anniversary.

Photos are circulating online of what appear to be boxes for a Zelda-themed Switch 2 console, as well as a similarly themed Pro Controller. Though the source of these photos is unclear, they seem legit enough, and corroborate rumors shared by insiders that such editions were on their way soon.

Both the controller and the Switch are black, dark green, and gold, with an elaborate gold Triforce design and logos on the box for The Legend of Zelda‘s 40th anniversary. Other details such as pricing and release date are unclear, though it’s expected that these items will launch alongside the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2. Granted, we don’t know when that will be either, but fans are speculating that it’s going to be a mid-November launch going up against Grand Theft Auto 6, thanks to Nintendo’s historical propensity for dropping amiibo shipments simultaneously with game launches.

Personally, I think it’s neat that Nintendo is finally branching out into more visually distinct looks for the Switch 2, but as usual (and purposefully, I’m sure), it’s irritating as someone who already has a Switch 2 and isn’t going to drop cash on a whole new one just for aesthetic reasons. What I’d really like to see is more colors of Joy-Con sold separately, and ideally actual different colors instead of just slight variations on the innards that you can’t even see when they’re snapped into the console itself. The ones that come with this special-edition Switch 2 look all right, but I have my doubts that they’ll be sold separately.

Also, all hardware and accessories are way too expensive nowadays. I’ll stick with dumping too much money on the game itself, thanks.
