A former Rockstar Games developer wouldn’t be shocked if Grand Theft Auto 6 is delayed once more.
Grand Theft Auto 6 was originally set to launch towards the end of 2025 but developers Rockstar Games have delayed the title twice. “The goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and GTA 6 is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve,” they explained after the first push back.
In June, pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 went live ahead of its planned release on November 19. However some fans are still expecting the game to be delayed due to the lack of gameplay footage shared by Rockstar. However other fans are expecting a new trailer to be released today (August 6) ahead of a Take Two earnings call tomorrow (August 7).

Speaking to Indy100, Grand Theft Auto 5 animator Mike York has said he “would not be shocked at all” if GTA 6 was delayed again.
“I don’t currently work there but based on my previous experience, they could delay it again. They can do whatever they want and people will wait right now,” he explained. “So if November comes around and they’re thinking ‘this final mission we have is still not looking very good and there are still a few bugs in this final mission’, they’ll push it six more months if they have to.”
Earlier this year Strauss Zelnick, boss of Grand Theft Auto publishers Take-Two Interactive, explained why it’s taken 13 years to make Grand Theft Auto 6. “I’m not going to name the properties but we’ve seen that some very competitive properties have had good annual releases and bad annual releases because it’s just so hard to do. We set a new standard. You have to make stuff that’s great and creating some anticipation on the part of the consumer is a good thing. We didn’t say ‘there should be an X year gap’ between releases. What has driven the gap is the amount of time it takes to do something that is as good as it can possibly be for that intellectual property.”
In other news, the success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has caused a surge in people playing Spider-Man video games.
