Fans at Lollapalooza go viral for passing a bag of pee over the crowd

Fans at Lollapalooza have gone viral for passing a bag of urine over the crowd.

The annual Chicago music festival returned last week for the 2026 edition, and featured performances from  Olivia Dean, Charli XCX, Tate McRae, Lorde, The xx and The Smashing Pumpkins.

Other names on the bill included Geese, Wet Leg, Wolf Alice, Ethel Cain, Turnstile, Lil Uzi Vert, CMAT, Little Simz, Zara Larsson, Clipse, The Neighbourhood, Yungblud, Beabadoobee and Sombr.

While the festival has already made headlines for Lorde bringing out Charli XCX, Smashing Pumpkins bringing out Olivia Rodrigo, and Charli XCX making it rain women’s underwear, the festival has also been getting people talking about the lack of etiquette of some festival goers – with footage going viral of the audience passing a bag of urine over the crowd.

In the viral clip, a bag of liquid is seen inside a cardboard box, being passed overhead through the crowd. It has been shared with the caption “Passing a bag of pee through the crowd is NOT OK”.

Already, the clip has been quick to get momentum online and lead to many people speaking out about the lack of etiquette and disregard for hygiene being seen at the festival.

“Do people just not understand portal potties? Or is there a major logistics nightmare that is keeping people from accessing the bathrooms,” one person wrote in the comments. “Is it the crowds not letting people out? I’m so confused why this is a thing?”

Another person shared: “sorry how the fuck does smth like this even begin to happen in the first place?” while a third simply wrote: “Reason number 847 why I avoid this festival.”

Other comments from frustrated viewers included one person sharing: “What is happening at lolla?! This is disgusting. Shitting and peeing in the crowd is just ridiculous. Be an adult, be respectful and go to the porta potty. No artist is worth that!”

Someone else highlighted how the poor behaviour seems to be becoming more frequent, writing: “What in the actual f is happening at festivals now??!! I have been to countless festivals over the last 20 years and have never once relieved myself anywhere but the bathroom. A couple of close calls, sure but I can’t even imagine.”

Over the past few months, a number of high profile artists including Noah Kahan and Olivia Rodrigo have called fans out for poor hygiene at their shows too.

If you have to poop at a show please dear god just go to the bathroom lmao I’ve pooped my pants as much as the next 29 year old but you guys gotta understand there’s a venue worker out there with a 1000 yard stare after dealing with that

    — Noah Kahan (@NoahKahan) June 27, 2026

Last month, Kahan called for Congress to get involved and force his fans to wear diapers to gigs, after people defecated on the floors of his shows.

Before then, Olivia Rodrigo also spoke out about instances at her show, saying that she had “smelled” hardcore fans who wore diapers in the front row.

There was also an investigation launched after a Morgan Wallen fan allegedly urinated on a family of four – refusing to leave a recent show for a moment to go to the toilet mid-set, and last week a gig by New Zealand metal band Devilskin went viral for reportedly being ruined by “a huge mess of shit, just completely spread all in the mosh pit.”
