Ubisoft is working on the next big title in its well-known video game series with Assassin’s Creed Hexe. An extensive leak now reveals alleged details about prices, gameplay and a likely release period.
Focus on linear gameplay
After the enormous success of Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft is hoping for another box office hit in its action role-playing game series and is currently working on the series part Assassin’s Creed Hexe. The game should bring some changes again. Instead of a huge open world, players can expect a more linear adventure, according to a new leak.
The plot revolves around the protagonist Anika during the witch trials in Würzburg in the 1620s. The developers rely on a dark atmosphere with horror elements. The play area is divided into extensive forests and various villages. The locomotion system is based on older titles in the series, but should be more fluid. There should also be magic.
Like the leaker RogueTX on X reports, a special fear system is also planned. Enemy NPCs flee during confrontations or react suspiciously towards strangers. This requires a tactical approach from the shadows. Accordingly, the fights represent a refined version of the classic clashes in Assassin’s Creed. The focus is heavily on stealth and avoiding open conflict.
Release and PC version
Internally, according to rumors, the studio is aiming for a release in June 2027. Since the development is not without difficulties, the date could still be postponed. The title is expected to be released for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. However, the controversial Denuvo copy protection will probably be used again on the PC. The standard version of the game will cost $70. A deluxe edition for $90 and a collector’s edition for $120 are also reportedly planned.
The euro prices are likely to be identical. The collector’s edition will again offer physical bonus content such as figures and art books. According to the rumors, pre-orderers will also receive an additional bonus mission. The game is expected to have an age rating of 18 years and over.
Return of a legend
For long-time fans of the series, the game also has a narrative surprise in store. According to the leaks, the protagonist Anika comes from the bloodline of Ezio Auditore da Firenze. The very popular character from Assassin’s Creed II could therefore appear as a ghostly mentor. Attentive players found the first clues about witches in a side mission from Black Flag Resynced, in which documents from Würzburg Cathedral can be found that hint at occult machinations.
Historically, Würzburg experienced one of the most massive witch hunts in all of Europe between 1626 and 1631. This provides a dark and historically based backdrop for the conflict between the Assassins and the Templar Order. The developers want to strictly follow historical records in order to authentically depict the era.
